    • ·         To make an active contribution to the University's vision and mission. • 
    • ·         To actively participate in institutional building activities.  
    • ·         To represent and promote the interests of the University. 
    • ·         To lead the academic development of the Department and nurture an appropriate culture, values for the support of excellent teaching, research and business activities. 
    • ·         To support activities to maximize student potential 
    • ·         To develop and enable a supportive research culture within the Department
    • ·         To ensure professional accreditation of programme as appropriate to the discipline. 
    • ·         To be proactive in enhancing and developing the quality of the students’ learning experience and the quality of teaching. 
    • ·         To personally maintain an appropriate academic contribution in agreement with the ViceChancellor or the Director of the institute/ cluster
    • ·         To contribute to the Annual Planning Cycle and the production of the Faculty Plan. 
    • ·         To manage all staff within the Department,including performance management, staff development and performance review, induction and succession planning. 
    • ·         To plan and manage the use of all delegated resources (including implementation of a workload allocation model and sickness absence monitoring) associated with the Department. 
    • ·         To communicate the University's strategic goals and new policy developments to members of the department and explain the drivers for change. 
    • ·         To ensure that the activities of the Department are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy and regulatory frameworks of the University.
    • ·         To represent the Department at Heads of Department meetings and other Committees, and Groups of the University as required. 
    •  To develop and promote the internal and external profile of the Department
